It’s finally here.

The Amazon smartphone, aptly named “Fire”, is set to hit the market on July 25th.

The phone costs $199.99 for a 32GB version and $299.99 for 64GB, with a two-year contract. Or, customers can opt to purchase an unlocked version of the Fire phone directly from Amazon for $649. Whether the consumer chooses to purchase the smartphone through AT&T or directly from Amazon, a year of Amazon Prime membership is thrown in for good measure.

  • 4.7-inch
  • 0.35 inches thick
  • 5.64 ounces
  • 2.2GHz quad-core processor
  • Adreno 339 graphics processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • Fire OS (a customized Android operating system)
  • 13-megapixel camera
  • Unlimited photo storage on the cloud
  • Gorilla Glass on both the front and the back
  • 3D screen

Why You Should Choose The Fire Phone

While some mobile users will stand by their current devices, others will make the switch at the end of next month. The streamlined offerings (Prime video, Prime music, Whispersync and more) make it easy for a current Amazon user to tie many different aspects of their digital life together.

Potential Drawbacks

It’s possible that the 3D screen will act as a turnoff to some consumers. While Samsung is known for their screens, their attempt at 3D devices was  dubbed “gimmicky” and interest waned. Unless the Amazon phone offers an entirely new approach to 3D, it may be a mistake.

Based solely on functionality of previous Amazon devices, it seems like the Fire phone could be an exciting new addition to the smartphone space.

Will you make the switch to the Fire phone when it launches on July 25th, 2014?
